A very fishy post !! post no. 18

This is going to be a very fishy, non veg post today.... ;)

Well, being a Keralite I am bound to love my fish curry and I do but for the last few years I am unable to savour my fish fry and curries because of the stomach ache that I get the moment I eat any fish.

This problem started of with eggs, I could not eat eggs at all, the moment I eat it , I would be suffering from an aching stomach,  when consulted a doctor he said that some people have allergy to eggs, so you better stop eating it , so I did.

Few years down the line I got the same problem when having fish. The only exception to this was sardine (or mathi) in Malayalam, my all time favourite fish, but last week when I had this I was aghast when just a few minutes after polishing off  a fish fry, my stomach started aching and how… so I did all the nuskhas I do to subside the same, the pain subsided but I am really hurt, this is not fair, even my favourite mathi is off limit for me now.  This was really the last  nail in the coffin as far as my love for eating fish  and especially sardine fry goes.

Now I am left with the one and only option in fishes and that is prawns.. I love prawn curry and prawn fry, I really  hope this will not be joining the  list of other fishes and play  havoc in my tummy.  So now on wards it will be only mathi charu for me, no fried kashnam... ;)

How about you ?  do you like the tangy curries or the crispy fries… it is mathi or ayala for you ?? (this question  is for my Malayali blogger friends out there!!)

This picture of 'karimeen porichath' or 'pearl spot' (roast)  , kerala’s very own fish, is added to grace and complete  this very fishy post…

Sorry my vegetarian friends, I will soon do a post on 'Aviyal' too ;)

  1. I am not much of a fish-fan. I love prawns though. And one particular fish curry with kodam-puli and all which Amma makes in the typical naadan way.

I hope prawns dont ditch you, Rekhu! Hope you get to enjoy relishing them :)

  3. The day I develop allergy to fish, I think I will just end my life. No point living after that, really :P
You should consult an allergy specialist and figure out what anti-allergant you can take before each fishy meal :D No, seriously!
The only fish I don;t like is that pinkish one, which is called "Sheelavu" or something in Trivandrum. I love Mathi fry, Aila curry and Kozhiyala varutharacha curry. My all time favourite though is Netholi! Fry, dry, curry - i love it in all forms! <3

  5. OMG!!! I am such a great fan of any type of fish that i am drooling over the picture and all the names of fish dishes mentioned in the comments of various readers.
I also think that life is not worth living without fish. When you come to chennai, I am going to show you my skills in cooking fish. I also have a fetish for the vessel, " Meen chatti" in which fish curry is made. I have atleast 6 of them at home and would buy them still if i lay my eyes on them.

  6. this just can't be! eggs and fish... what will be life without them? i hope prawns will not abandon you ss. i've heard allergies can be won over by being exposed to it in small quantities on a regular basis. so this is your cue to get those prawns or sardine at regular intervals from now on but in small quantities..
