Reading phase....post no. 22
I remember those days when I used to wait for the paper vala
to get me my ‘Nandan’ and ‘Champak’ and the ‘Childrens world’, It was a great
feeling to hold the brand new edition of these children's magazine and then
devour the contents greedily, I remember not getting up even for my food so
that I can read it from back to back at one go.
I also used to like
comics such as ‘Phantom’, ‘Mandrake the magician’, ‘Chacha Chaudhary’ and then
later got addicted to ‘Archies comics’ as well. It was a phase, the phase just
before lurching on to Mills & Boons graduating on to ‘Sidney sheldon’ and
then there was no looking back.
I remember we had a small stationary shop near our house
which used to lend these comics on rent, he used to charge a paltry sum for
keeping the book for an entire day, it was fun, I used to frequent this shop so
much that if I missed it even for a day he would start enquiring with my
parents if I am unwell or what??
I
used to read Malayalam children's magazines such as ‘poombatta’ and ‘balarama’ also ..sigh!!
those were the days…!!
Such was the pleasure of reading in those childhood and teenage
days, what about you? did you read these comics when you were young or it was
something else that you fancied…??

ReplyDeleteExcept Mills and Boon, yes everything. Loved Balarama and Tinkle those going days
ReplyDeleteha ha no Mills & Boon...
ReplyDeleteAah! This made my heart do a time travel. Like you, we used to get Nandan, Champak from the paper walla too. And we would exchange our Champaks and Nandans with Chacha Choudhary, Biloo, Amar Chitra Katha ryc from other kids in our neighbourhood. What fun were those days!
ReplyDeleteI think childhood and teenage were the years when we read with a selfless abandon. Now when i start reading there are a hundred which needs to be completed that takes my attention away and reading is done as a stuff to be ticked off in my to do list.
ReplyDeleteI totally get it.. nowadays this is exactly what happens with me...
Deleteyour list is almost the same as mine except of course for 'champak' & 'nandan' will be back for the rest ss. i see that you are at the finish line. good going!
